Meet me at Smokers Corner

I’ve got a Valentine’s Day surprise for all you lovers out there—a new short story!

Smokers Corner

It’s called “Smokers Corners” and it’s a romantic comedy. Here’s a one-sentence synopsis:

Tim loses his addiction for the ho-hum after falling for Samantha during a smoking break.

Guess what? You can read it for free online!

Smashwords – Barnes & Noble – Apple – Kobo – Goodreads – ‘txtr

It’s also on the Kindle store for 99 cents (Amazon doesn’t allow free, believe it or not).

If you like it, please leave a review where you downloaded it.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out Life Trade, my other recent short story!

Life Trade, a short story

What if a stranger took over the part of your best friend?

That’s the premise of my new short story, “Life Trade.”  It’s an idea I came up with a long time ago, but it was only recently that I figured out how to make it work as a story. Last week while off for the holidays, I finally got around to writing it. And now you can read it right here for free!

If you use a Kindle, iPad, Nook or other eReader, you can get the .mobi or .epub version for free at Smashwords.

It’s also available free from Barnes & Noble, Kobo, AppleGoodreads and ‘txtr.

You can also buy “Life Trade” directly from the Amazon Kindle store for 99 cents, if you so wish. The only reason I’m charging there is that Amazon does not allow self-published to give away their work for free. Don’t feel pressured to pay — I’d be happier if you enjoyed the story and left a review or shared it with your friends.

Irish Band Has Sharp Claws

For your listening pleasure, here’s the first single by Morning Claws, a new indie band from Northern Ireland. The slow-burning “Slack Magic” mixes electronic bleeps with intricate vocal harmonies and earnest lyrics. The effect is quite hypnotizing, demanding repeat listens. Fans of Postal Service take notice!

Play “Slack Magic” by Morning Claws (right click to save to PC)

New bands always have trouble with the first photo.

The band is looking for a U.S. label and hasn’t announced plans for a full release. But if they’ve got a few more tracks in them like this, I think they’ll do just fine. For more info, go to http://morningclaws.com/

Review of ‘Brilliant’ We, The Watched

I’m excited to say that online magazine The American Chronicle just published a rather flattering review of my novel We, The Watched.

There’s action, romance, and social commentary woven into a brilliant story with an amazing plot twist near the end. It’s science fiction in the way that Orwell’s1984 or Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury dystopian novels are considered science fiction. In fact, I see shades and shadows of both works in We, The Watched. The writing is nearly on par with these geniuses of the written word. Mr. Bender isn’t quite there yet, but is closing in fast on the masters. Since this is his first published novel, that’s an auspicious start. It’s highly likely that given a bit more time and experience, the novice shall surpass the masters.

Reviewer David Broughton also interviewed me for the story. Check out the full review at http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/193118

The Roommate

The RoommateI was looking through some short stories I wrote in the past few years and came upon a little gem called THE ROOMMATE.

It’s a humorous mystery/horror tale of a college student who suspects his roommate of murder. I did some quick proofreading and added it to Scribd.

Check it out below and let me know what you think.
